Expert Answers about Car Tie Down Straps

  • How Long Does Warranty Last On CargoBuckle G3 Retractable Ratchet Tie-Down Straps
  • The CargoBuckle G3 Retractable Ratchet Tie-Down Straps # IMF18800 have a 1 year limited warranty. This is pretty standard across brands for a retractable ratchet strap. Unfortunately, after 10 years this means they are no longer covered under the warranty. The only option would be to replace them.

  • Keeping Water Out of Air Force One Braking System in Automatic Car Wash
  • I spoke with my contact at Demco and he insisted that while it was unlikely that the cap that goes over the air connection on the # SM99243 would come off in an automatic car wash, they recommend using a zip tie around the cap on the connection to keep it secure. Typically the cap would only come off when they are worn down and stretched out. Using a zip tie around the base will keep even the most worn down cap from coming off while going through an automatic car wash.

  • Mounting Brackets For BoatBuckle Tie Downs That Bent From Boat Hull On Trailer
  • For the BoatBuckle Tie-Down Straps # IMF08893 themselves you will want to check the mount tab for any cracks that may have occurred. If you have cracks in the steel you will want to replace the entire assembly. We do have the Mounting Bracket # IMF14254 which may allow you to position the straps away from the area where your boat hull can contact it while loading. Otherwise please send me some images of your boat and trailer and I can give you other alternatives.

  • Troubleshooting Ratchet Strap Double J-Hooks Stuck Together
  • If your Erickson Ratchet Tie-Down Strap w Double J-Hooks # EM78627-MS are stuck then I recommend holing one of them in place with something like a vice and tapping on the other one with a rubber mallet at different angles to slowly loosen it up. Just be sure the places you hit it aren't reinforcing the hooks being connected.

  • Why Would Motorcycle Fork Seals Fail While Loaded on Trailer
  • Over tightening straps that secure a bike by the handlebars can blow out the fork seals. So I would not recommend the use of a strap that automatically tightens as you will end up with the problem you experienced. The CargoBuckle G3 Retractable Ratchet Tie-Down Straps # IMF18800 can self retract, but they do not self tighten. If these are the straps you used and the fork seals blew out it would be from either over tightening them on the initial install or weak seals.

  • Troubleshooting Stromberg Carlson Jack that Clicks When it Attempts to Lift
  • The ball bearings in the jack screw of the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack # JET-5000 would not need greasing but it sounds like you have other issues. You either have a weak battery that's powering this jack or a weak ground based on what you are experiencing. You can try running a jumper wire from a known working car battery posts to this and you'll know if it's the battery or the jack. If the jack starts working like it should with the jumper wires the issue is a weak ground...

  • Triple Axle Boat Trailer Suspension Clearance Problems After Installing New Front Springs
  • The first thing I would check on is the capacity of the new springs that you had installed on the trailer. You need to be sure that the spring capacity is rated at 1/2 the axle capacity. That way 2 springs equal the capacity of the trailer axle for proper fit. Check the arch of the springs with a level top of spring to top of spring to tie bolt. Next, check the suspension components on the trailer and make sure there is no damage. The Spring hangers, equalizers or shackle straps could...

  • I went ahead and reached out to my contact at Demco, and he confirmed that when your Kar Kaddy SS # DM9713045 is empty, the tire pressure should be down to 20 psi. When your 3,800 pound vehicle is loaded on the Kar Kaddy, the tires should be inflated to 50 psi. With all this being said, the Kar Kaddy SS is designed to be transported with a vehicle loaded. In general, there will be more bouncing depending on this factor as well the surface of the roadway. You can add either sand or salt...

  • Converting 6-Way Square to 4-Way Flat on a Honda Odyssey

You said your trailer has a battery. If the battery circuit was somehow connected to the vehicle lighting circuits, you may have damaged the converter attached to the trailer wiring harness that switches the Odyssey 3 wire system down to the trailers two...

  • The Locking Handle on the Yakima JayLow Kayak Carrier Will Disengage When Kayas are Secured to Car
  • I contacted my rep at Yakima and he told me that sometimes the red locking handle will become loose on the locking cam. They suggested to take all the tension off the carrier and before reattaching and setting the lock, you should turn the red handle a few times before you set the latch to the locking position. As you are turning that handle clockwise, you should feel tension begin to build up then lock the cam. This should eliminate the lock from coming free.

  • Troubleshooting a Bouncing Boat Trailer, Possible Causes and Solutions
  • It sounds like a problem with tongue weight. In this case, the tongue weight may be too high meaning too much weight is forward of the trailer axle, pushing down on the hitch, or too low. If at all possible, try moving some weight further back or forward. If you have a large motor on the back, it could be making the tongue weight too low, while gear at the front or items mounted to the trailer tongue area can make it too high. Also, most trailer tires are rated for a maximum speed of 65...

  • Troubleshooting Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack Movement While Driving with a 2012 Honda Crosstour
  • Thank you for reaching out and your purchase of the Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitches # Y96FR. With that being said, the reason why you're experiencing...
